Summer sport practice, be on the safe side

In summer, in winter, in any season… sports offer many health benefits and make us feel really good.

We say YES to summer sports, but when and how should we exercise? Especially at this time of year, we should be more aware and careful about how to practice sports. The time of the day chosen, age, physical preparation and weather conditions should be taken into account.

Heat is precisely one of the determining factors to take into account for the practice of any sport, whether it takes place outdoors or indoors.

We are right in the middle of the summer season, therefore, there are some tips to bear in mind. One of the most important aspects is a good hydration; the consequences of the loss of fluid could be fatal. One should drink before, during and after practising sports. Soft drinks are not recommended and we should not exceed the intake of isotonic ones.

The chosen time to practice sports, mostly in summer, is another factor to keep in mind. Early morning is preferable, in any case, we recommend avoiding the hours when the sun is strongest.

Sunscreen is not limited only to exposure to the sun on beaches or pools. The degree of information about the damage caused by the sun is very high, but awareness on how it affects us is not so and it is very common to use inadequate sunscreens. We should not forget that any physical activity outdoors may expose us to the sun as much or more than when lying under the sun on the sand, so that the degree of protection should be right for every skin type.

Wearing suitable clothes will help us ensuring that we practice sports correctly, protecting our body, and especially the joints in the case of footwear. Comfort is one of the aspects to consider when it comes to exercise.

We should keep in mind a healthy diet, depending on the activity to be developed, and have the adequate rest. Getting the right balance between exercise and rest is essential for our well-being.
