Clinica Ochoa has an out patient area dedicated to endoscopy testing, and comprising different rooms where the patient will be prepared, tests conducted, and finally moved to for recovery.
A colonoscopy is a test whereby the digestive system specialist explores the rectum and colon.
It is performed by gently inserting the endoscope, a tube-shaped instrument containing a light and a lens, into the back passage (anus).
The doctor monitors the whole process through images appearing on a screen. During the test, the patient will be sedated so as not to feel any discomfort. Once the scan is completed the patient may leave within 15 or 30 minutes.
If polyps are found, they will be removed during the colonoscopy procedure.
Colonoscopy is recommended for all persons aged 50, or even younger, in cases of rectal bleeding or if they have a family history of colon cancer or other predisposing conditions (ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease).
